Large, protruding ears can be corrected by reducing them back closer to the head. Otoplasty is performed on men and women but specially young children, particularly boys whose short hair cannot conceal the ears deformity and feels the urge to have the operation due to unnecessary remarks and looks from friends.
Different size and shape such as lop-ear can also be corrected by this operation as well as lobe repairing intervention and reconstruction is available for men, women and children as early as 14 years old whose ears have fully grown.
If your child is young, your surgeon may recommend general anesthesia, so the child will sleep through the operation. For older children or adults, the surgeon may prefer to use local anesthesia, combined with a sedative, so you or your child will be awake but relaxed.
This surgery usually takes about two to three hours.
Adults and children are usually up and around within a few hours of surgery, although you may prefer to stay overnight in the hospital with a child until all the effects of general anesthesia wear off.
